I’m a little dismayed by how many fights are PPV, especially looking ahead to 2014. Canelo Alvarez announced today that all three of his fights in 2014 will be PPV fights, and it’s looking highly likely that Sergio Martinez’s return fights will probably be PPV too. In an already niche sport, are more PPVs the best option? Particularly when most of the fights are taking place on premium cable channels HBO and Showtime, which subscribers are already paying a pretty penny for apart from Pay-Per-View? Personally, there are very few cards I would pay $60 to see.
But hey, on the upside, GGG is fighting this Saturday, and it’s not PPV! Now we’re talking!
